How do you want to feel when you return to work after a holiday?

A choice between feeling the same and slightly different.
We often say ‘back to reality’ after a holiday because it feels like we are going back to the same work situation.

After recharging, we can continue doing what we have been doing, as the same person. With the same thinking, same actions, and same feelings.
If you feel fulfilled, that works well.
If not, that’s an opportunity not just to refresh but re-establish an updated version of you when you show up again at your workplace.
How I Use a Break to Break the Old Pattern
Recently, I have taken a week off from creating YouTube videos.
Consistency is the golden rule set by many top entrepreneurs and content creators. I have been doing my best to follow that.
After consistently producing 40 videos, I hit a friction point when the platform was severely affected by AI slop. And I paused for a week.
Taking this break made me feel relief temporarily from the ‘consistency’ pressure. It also allowed me to rethink how to approach this YouTube experiment better.
And when I resumed making a new video, I changed to creating in a more relaxing manner. Less structured and scripted. More natural and authentic.
I don’t know if it will work better. But I did enjoy making it more than continuing the same old way.
The key outcome: this one shift helps me continue this project feeling more aligned and not being led by an algorithm.
You are back from a holiday. Now what?
You may not have a personal project like mine. But you have your own version of work that you care about and feel stressed.
You return to the office as usual to handle thousands of unread emails, project updates, and plans to meet business goals like before.
That is one approach. The usual approach. But not the only approach.
Here’s an alternative one.
When you are on holiday, you get the space to feel what’s right for you. You can take the opportunity to break from old patterns that no longer serve you now.
What's one small shift you can make to approach your work differently? What kind of change will make you feel more aligned to what you need?
It can be a boundary like starting a no-work-at-home policy after 8pm.
It can be a behavioural shift like talking with each family member in full present for 15 minutes a day.
It can be a mindset change like reminding yourself you are not your job title but a human being with a life.
You get the gist.
In business, when the situation changes, you naturally reassess your choices and make adjustments.
Your work and life situations change too. You can either keep using the old method that no longer serves you or adopt new ones.
Only you know which shift works better for you.
