This is a BIG question that many are asking.

It can be firstly explored from the angle of MONEY (north star for the majority):

  • WHY do you want to make money?

  • What is your plan to manage or use that money?

  • What are they for? Who are they for? What purposes are they for?

  • If you have more than enough to cover your living expenses and your wish list items, how would you use them?

  • If money is out of the question, what kind of impact do you truly want to make?

What are you chasing afterall?

NO MONEY FLASH MOB INSPIRATION

ree

Singing is one of my leisure activities to have fun, release stress, and connect with others through music.

As London streets are getting decorated for the Christmas season, there are various light-on events at iconic locations, including Carnaby Street in Soho.

When I travelled here as a tourist, I was super excited to walk around this area filled with joyful vibes.

But this time, as a local resident, I take on the local role to create that vibe through a flash mob singing activity arranged by my choir for the light-up event.

There is NO MONEY for doing it.

It’s an act of spreading love and joy to the public as the festive season is approaching.

In a time when we live under so much uncertainty, conflicts, and chaos in the world. It’s a privilege to spread LOVE in such a meaningful and joyful way.

And by participating in this flash mob, I get to realize that singing is one of the fascinating activities I enjoy that can contribute to society.

That allows me to identify a purpose.

7 WHYS TO FIND YOUR DEEPER PURPOSE(S)

Finding our purpose in life doesn't have to be a ONE and only. It can be MANY.

I believe the key is to be INTENTIONAL in making our daily choices in everything we do.

If you don’t feel fulfilled, even if you are making good money or find that what you are doing doesn’t mean a lot to you anymore...

...perhaps you can try using the 7 WHYs approach to explore your deeper needs. It's an approach inspired by the 5 WHYs problem-solving technique by Sakichi Toyoda, Toyota's Founder in the 1930s.

Using my Flash Mob as an Example

I want to go for the flash mob.

WHY (1) is it important?

Because it sounds fun.

WHY (2) does it sound fun?

Because I can experience singing in public with my choir together.

WHY (3) is this experience of singing in public with my choir important?

Because singing in public with my choir brings delightful surprises to the public.

WHY (4) is it important to bring delightful surprises to the public?

Because it feels good.

WHY (5) does it feel good?

Because I can bring joy to others.

WHY (6) is bringing joy to others important?

Because it’s meaningful.

WHY (7) is it meaningful?

Because it helps uplift our spirits. That is especially meaningful in times of uncertainty, conflicts, and chaos.

When you dig deeper by asking 7 WHYs, you will get better clarity of what truly excites you.

And it doesn't have to be 7 WHYS, it could be any number, as long as it gives you an ah-ha answer that brings more clarity and deeper meaning.

GOT BETTER CLARITY. THEN WHAT?

With that answer, you can ask yourself if you are doing that now (in any form or amount).

If you are, you can think of the possibilities how to do more?

If not, you can think of the possibilities to experience that NOW?

And if you know deeper what you truly want, you can make different choices to better align with your true desire.

And that’s a good starting point to find your purpose(s) and live a more purposeful life.

I have better clarity on the purpose of joining my choir. I hope this helps you figure out your purpose(s) too.
