The four resources to look at
I remember when I was a C-suite leader. During a weekend, I would finally get a moment to check my personal emails and read a blog like this.
It was a precious breathing space to get inspiration for what's possible outside a job.
Exploration is not Expectation

If you are into exploring options, do you have anything in mind? I guess being an entrepreneur is one of them.
There is no shortage of those zero-to-million-dollar stories. The blanket media coverage sets how society EXPECTS entrepreneurial success to look.
On one hand, they look aspirational because they match or exceed what you could get from your current job (as a senior leader).
On the other hand, they become a standard that stops many from even starting a thousand-dollar business.
The truth is, many successful entrepreneurs didn't start by expecting to build million-dollar businesses. They experimented with what they had.
What you need now is not a revenue number, but a resource number. How much do you have to start this exploration journey?
The Four resourceS
Do you know you are not starting from zero? Look at the resources you have on hand. They are time, money, energy, and network.
Time. When in the week do you have an hour spent on activities that are nice to do? What if you use that hour to research your options?
Money. How much money do you budget to invest in your own growth, if any? What if you spend it on a course, a coach, or a mastermind group to test one of your options?
Energy. When do you feel most energized outside of work? What if you pick one option and one action to work on with full focus?
Network. Who might have already done what you want to explore? What if you invite one of them for coffee to get more inspiration?
Identifying the possibility in these four resources is how you can start.
Don't limit yourself in any way. You have so much more than this precious breathing space to create your options.
When you find any of them challenging, you can always leverage one resource to get another.
If your budget is tight, a book or free resources (online videos, podcasts, free trial classes) will still get you there. It takes longer, but it works.
Or, if you have a small network, you can always pay to join a community to expand your circle.
You know if there is a will, there is a way.
Your Journey has Just BEGUN
By identifying the four resources, you uncover possibilities you didn't notice before. That's how you start without quitting.
To take it further, reserve an hour a week to work on this so you can keep making progress and adjust with real inputs.
That hour will create a dedicated space for your exploration to flourish.
Building a million-dollar business sounds like a good dream that society expects you to chase. But it isn't yours to begin with, especially when you're just starting to explore.
This is the second article about exploring options while staying in your job. If you missed the first one on knowing why you want to explore, you can find it here.
